Brent asked them to keep him comfortable until he got there. The hospital needed to know whether they should use a CPAP or other interventions. As he was just on the road, he received a call from the hospital that Maury has started to crash (oxygen saturations had dropped) and unfortunately Bonnie and Shane had just left the hospital. Bonnie, Shane and other family stayed behind.Īfter some time with the kids, Brent decided to head back to Fargo alone and I would remain home with kids and critters for the evening. He was so tough that Brent and I decided to run home, drop off our car for a needed repair, check again on dogs and puppies, and greet the kids after school. We just seemed thrilled at that point that he could mouth that word.īonnie came into the room once the other nurse got her from the main waiting room and it was immediate kisses. He had some weak swallowing ability, but it was there. While we couldn’t give him a big glass to gulp not knowing whether he had swallowing ability, Kat quickly complied with a sponge on a stick of ice water with a piece of ice on it. Maury also mouthed the word “water” to us. He also had an itchy head from the stitches. At first he seemed to say no, but then we realized he seemed to have some shoulder and neck discomfort. He was proud as a peacock getting the tube out he had been inquiring about for days on end!įrom there, our palliative nurse, Kat, entered the room to assess him. I do have to add that this morning when we walked back in the room with his family and brothers once his vent tube had been pulled and he had his brand new nasal canula on, I remarked, “Look at you!” And Maury was just beaming - a big grin, from ear to ear. Cousin Danielle, my boy Jakob and I are here with him. He started to struggle breathing at about 5:45 this evening. When we endasked him if wanted the tube replaced if things started going south, he shook his head “no.”. Dad’s ventilator was pulled this morning at his request.
